“Tomorrow is decided today”, for a green and fair recovery
Civil society organisations want to help resolve the crises Romania now faces: health, economic, climate and ecological crises. “Tomorrow is decided today” is the alternative proposed to decision-makers and political parties following consultations among more than 10 non-governmental organisations and specialists in the environment, economics, health, education and democracy. The proposed measures should be implemented quickly so that Romania can begin to recover.
The pandemic we are going through is undoubtedly a source of immense suffering and a turning point in human history. Yet this crisis opens a window through which we can look closely at what matters and gives us a unique opportunity to repair what we have done wrong in the past.
The choices the authorities make now to fight the pandemic, in their efforts to resolve the health-system crisis and cushion economic shocks, will have a profound impact on our future. It is time for decision-makers to act with vision and transparency, to get beyond this critical point and be prepared for any future crisis: economic, climate, ecological or health-related. Every measure taken today must therefore lay the foundations for a transition to a different kind of society: healthy, fair, built around the common good and caring for nature.
The key measures we propose are available on mainesedecideazi.ro in the form of a petition. To support and accelerate their implementation, we call on citizens, scientists, artists, organisations, authorities, opinion leaders and everyone involved in society’s well-being to join this initiative.
