2020 was one of the most devastating years ever recorded in the Amazon. In August, there were more than 29,307 fires across the Amazon region — the second-highest number in the past decade and a disaster for the climate, wildlife and people who depend on the rainforest

But it is not only the Amazon that is in danger. Fires are also devastating Brazil’s Cerrado — one of the world’s most biodiverse savannas — as well as the Pantanal wetlands.
Almost all fires are deliberately started as part of a long-term plan. EU market demand for profitable products such as beef and soya also drives this destruction — the EU is the world’s second-largest market for Brazilian soya!
What can you do?
The EU must take responsibility for fuelling these fires. If we want to stop forest fires, we need a strong law. This would ensure that products on EU supermarket shelves do not cause deforestation or ecosystem destruction.

The European Commission is currently asking citizens for their views on such a law. This is our only chance to have a say — and we must make our voices heard loud and clear! Will you get involved?

If you agree that we must stop EU consumption from destroying the Amazon and other precious ecosystems, please sign in the #Together4Forests campaign, supported by more than 100 NGOs.
With a few clicks, you can tell the Commission that you want a law to eliminate deforestation, nature destruction and human rights violations from EU supply chains.
