Ladies and gentlemen of the council,

In February of this year, an opinion poll was launched for Piatra Neamţ residents on converting the zoo into a park. More than two thirds of those who took part in the sociological survey supported this change.

Now it is your turn to support the wishes of Piatra Neamţ’s residents, to take account of the majority and, through your vote, contribute to the city’s green development.

174 animals are confined in the zoo, and this is not the first time Cozla Zoo has come to public attention. Following strong media campaigns exposing the conditions in which the animals live, two bears and a lion were rescued from the miserable conditions in which they had lived for years and transferred to nature reserves where they will spend the rest of their lives. At present, the species with the most individuals are pigeons, rabbits and guinea pigs — animals that could either live freely or become pets.

With the efforts of the authorities and local and international NGOs, the wild animals in Cozla Zoo could find a living environment as close as possible to their natural one. The first and most important step is to change this sad place and restore the purpose it had when it was created more than a century ago — “Cozla” Park.

Far from utopian, our hope is that your vote could make Piatra Neamţ the first city in Romania to offer residents an interactive digital educational centre. Children could learn how animals actually live in their natural environment, what their needs are, which habitats and species need protection, and why we cannot live without nature.

Yours sincerely,

Gabriel PĂUN, President of Agent Green
