The massacre resumes in Valea Cerbului, in the forests on Bucegi’s Prahova slopes
Agent Green drew attention to the deliberate and illegal destruction of the ancient forests sheltered in Valea Cerbului in Bucegi Natural Park as early as May 2021, but logging continued. In December 2021, the nature protection organisation stopped the felling at Bucharest Tribunal, but the logging company moved its operations to the next plots and logging is now taking place right on the hiking trail linking the resort of Bușteni to Omu Peak.
Agent Green returned to Valea Cerbului in January 2022 and caught the logging company in full operation.
Bucegi Natural Park has no approved management plan. There is no environmental assessment, and Romsilva illegally changed the Inspire boundary of the Abruptul Prahovean nature reserve to facilitate the logging of these ancient forests, prompting the environmental organisation to file complaints with DNA and OLAF; investigations are ongoing.

Agent Green tracked the monumental trees harvested in Valea Cerbului by Migab Forest. The timber is turned into flooring, doors and MDF boards at the Turkish Yldiz Entegre factory near Pitești, and into drums and reels at the MarMob factory near Rădăuți, Suceava County. The organisation calls on these corporations to adopt social responsibility policies and reject timber from Bucegi.
Agent Green asks the ministry to restore National Park status to Bucegi and strictly protect at least 90% of the forests in this protected area, including Valea Cerbului in its entirety and all valleys with hiking trails that protect not only biodiversity but also human settlements. The organisation also calls on the Royal Family’s Household, which owns these forests strictly protected by previous generations, to urgently abandon all planned felling in the Bucegi Mountains.
