Agent Green’s reports led to fines exceeding 170,000 lei in eight counties in 2026. They were imposed by the Forest Guard, the National Environmental Guard, the Gendarmerie and the Police after our investigators documented suspicious logging and timber shipments and reported them to the authorities.
The largest fines come from the Hârtibaciu Plateau. At Rodbav, inspections by the National Forest Guard and the National Environmental Guard resulted in fines of 80,000 lei: 30,000 lei for forestry shortcomings and 50,000 lei for failure to comply with the protection conditions of the Natura 2000 site. The Forest Guard sent two criminal referrals to the Făgăraș Prosecutor’s Office, concerning the unauthorised felling of boundary trees and timber theft.
The remaining fines came from monitoring timber shipments, including those with photographs in SUMAL 2.0 in which the load and registration number could not be distinguished, and from checking a logging operation in the Ceahlău area:
-
Argeș: 36,000 lei (18 fines) and 31 warnings, following two reports sent to the Gendarmerie
-
Maramureș: 19,000 lei, 8 sanctions for 7 businesses
-
Suceava: 11,000 lei (11 fines) and one warning
-
Neamț: 9,000 lei
-
Olt: 7,000 lei (25 fines)
-
Dâmbovița: 4,000 lei (4 fines) and 2 warnings; two official reports were forwarded to the Dâmbovița County Police Inspectorate (IPJ Dâmbovița) for criminal investigation
-
Ceahlău area: 3,000 lei, plus a charge for the value of a beech tree felled without a forestry mark
-
Vâlcea: 2,000 lei
In Olt, Suceava and Maramureș, the fines were imposed in just two weeks, between 10 and 23 September.
We thank the institutions that checked the reports and enforced the law: the National Forest Guard, the National Environmental Guard, the Suceava and Cluj Forest Guards, the Gendarmerie units in Argeș, Dâmbovița, Olt, Suceava and Maramureș, and the Suceava County Police Inspectorate (IPJ Suceava). When civil society documents and institutions investigate, irregularities in the forest no longer go unnoticed.
