What the investigation documents
In February 2023, Agent Green returned to forests managed by Dorna Cândrenilor Forest District, where authorities suspected theft through understating tree dimensions in APVs, the timber valuation documents: declaring diameters and heights significantly below the actual measurements, to steal and sell the difference in timber on the black market.
Agent Green’s account also reported suspicions that people believed to be forest district employees had removed markings from trees, preventing comparison of actual dimensions with the original inventory. These allegations are presented as suspicions from the investigation material.
Responses and context
The material seeks views both in the forest and at the forest district headquarters. The archived text names Mihai Gășpărel, head of the Suceava Forest Guard, as the person who commented on the situation at Dorna Cândrenilor Forest District.
Agent Green recalled a large-scale raid in this area targeting two clans suspected of obtaining timber of illegal origin. The archived text described it as the largest raid in Romania’s history; that characterisation belongs to the 2023 account.
