Agent Green’s vision for Romania’s forests
Agent Green presents its complete vision for reforming Romania’s forestry sector, a policy document proposing concrete measures to stop forest degradation and move towards a sustainable management model.
Main proposals
The document includes structural proposals for Romania’s entire forestry system:
- Separation of functions — regulation, administration and commercial activities must be separated and managed by distinct entities to eliminate conflicts of interest
- Strict protection of 10% of the forest estate — in line with the EU biodiversity strategy for 2030
- Close-to-nature forestry — banning clear-cutting and permanently retaining at least 70% of the native standing timber volume on each hectare
- National afforestation programme — a target of 40% forest cover across the national territory
- Complete digitalisation — timber traceability and monitoring of logging through modern digital systems
- Free access to forests — effectively guaranteeing citizens’ right to enjoy nature
The vision served as a reference for Agent Green’s positions during the legislative process for the new Forest Code and in dialogue with European institutions.
